|Christmas is a time of celebration, merrymaking,
beauty and fun. People decorate the houses to contribute to the festive
spirit of the Christmas holidays. Lights, ornaments, colors, wreaths,
garlands, stars and the Christmas tree are used to add more and more
beauty to the houses.
Gifts are undoubtedly the major highlight of Christmas. Rosary
makes a wonderful Christmas gift. You cannot resist the temptation
of collecting Rosary as gift items.
Rosaries come in mostly two types, the chain and the corded. The
chain usually are of three types. The simple chain is the most common
type. The wire wrapped rosary is not so popular. The third is ladder
which is basically a rosary made horizontally of two chains.
Generally a set of Rosary beads contains 50 beads in groups of ten.
The ten signifies a decade, with an additional large bead before
each decade. The rosary beads can be prepared from a wide range
of materials, including glass, wood, bone, crushed flowers, semi-precious
stones such as jet, amber, agate and jasper, or precious materials
including rock crystal, coral, gilded silver and gold.
It is especially in vogue for beads to be made of material with
some unique importance, such as jet from the shrine of St. James
at Santiago de Compostela, or olive seeds supposedly from the Garden
of Gethsemane. Beads are also made to enclose sacred relics, or
drops of holy water.
